For the first time in 14 years, a new dimension will appear in Minecraft – Mojang has announced Sift

Mojang announced that the Sift is coming to Minecraft Java Edition and Bedrock Edition in 2027, marking the game's first new dimension in over 14 years. The reveal came during the Minecraft LIVE broadcast in September 2026.

The Sift had already been shown off as one of the key locations in dungeon crawler Minecraft Dungeons II. The stream revealed that the dimension won't stay exclusive to the spin-off and will make its way into the main game next year. There, the Sift will officially become the fourth dimension, joining the Overworld, the Nether, and the End.

The last addition to that list happened back in 2011, when the End arrived along with its final boss, the Ender Dragon. Since then, the structure of the Minecraft world has stayed the same, even as developers kept expanding existing dimensions with new biomes, mobs, and structures.

Mojang barely touched on how the Sift will actually work in vanilla during Minecraft LIVE. The broadcast only offered a few glimpses of the dimension itself and one of the mobs that lives there. The official description was pretty brief too.

Minecraft LIVE revealed that the newest Minecraft dimension isnt just finding its home in Dungeons II, itll also be coming to Minecraft Java & Bedrock Edition next year. This will be the first new dimension in over 14 years joining the Overworld, the Nether and the End as our fourth dimension.

During the broadcast, you got a glimpse into this dimension in Minecraft and even one of the mobs that calls it home. But surely thats not enough! Luckily you can experience it for yourself in Minecraft Dungeons II coming September 29, 2026.

For now, Minecraft Dungeons II is the only place to get a sense of what the dimension will look like. In the dungeon crawler, the Sift is described as "beautiful, vibrant, and teeming with souls." It includes new biomes such as the Meadow and the Carapace.

Mojang hasn't clarified yet how closely the version of the Sift in the main game will match its appearance in Minecraft Dungeons II. Minecraft Dungeons II is set to launch on September 29, 2026, while the Sift arrives in Minecraft Java Edition and Bedrock Edition in 2027.
