12 years after the No Man's Sky reveal at E3 2014, a player found the planet from the trailer, discovered by Sean Murray himself

The anniversary expedition for No Man's Sky starts right where everything began. Players who launched Our Journey Continues found that the starting planet is called Oria V, with hellogames-sean listed as its discoverer.

That's the same planet shown in the gameplay trailer from E3 2014. A tropical world with orange vegetation, giant red palm trees, a lime-colored sky, and water in the same shade, with a cave system beneath the surface where players mined geridium in the original footage.

The cave itself once earned a specific warning from Sean Murray. According to him, the labyrinth stretches for kilometers underground, and careless players can get stuck there for a long time.

Fans quickly checked the coordinates using third-party tools. Calculations show that in a regular game, the planet in this system is named Heloss J29 and sits roughly 700,000 light years from the galactic center, making Oria V the first mismatch found after thousands of checks.

There's only one explanation. Hello Games manually redefined the planet for the expedition, adjusting the seed to match the trailer look, while the visual markers still line up with the calculations – lush vegetation, giant flora, mountain canyons, and a green sky.

Players also spotted the main inconsistency. The landscape really does resemble footage from twelve years ago, but the local wildlife stayed standard procedural fare, with none of the massive dinosaurs from the trailer.

One of the rewards addresses that complaint directly. The gift list includes a diplodocus companion, rebuilt from original models found in pre-release materials, with artists redoing its textures, rig, and animations, while programmers refined the inverse kinematics so the creature walks smoothly across slopes.

The rest of the rewards lean on nostalgia too:

  • a set of nine framed illustrations based on covers of major updates

  • a ship cockpit bobblehead based on an old test asset that never shipped but was found by modders

  • the Starbound v0.27 multi-tool, built from pre-release concepts

  • a gold version of the Rasamama S36, the starting ship from the original release

  • a vintage Sentinel interceptor modeled after early footage

The expedition marks the 23rd overall and celebrates the game tenth anniversary. Hello Games notes that it has released 41 named updates over that span, and the event itself adds developer commentary, revived elements from older versions of the game like previous space stations, and easter eggs for longtime players.

Players can start the run from the expedition terminal on the Anomaly or from a fresh save, which later converts to normal mode. Rewards get delivered to the whole account and can be picked up from the quicksilver synthesis terminal.

One practical thing to keep in mind before starting: some players spawn on islands without dihydrogen deposits, leaving them with nothing to take off with, so it's better to just restart the expedition right away if that happens.

Our Journey Continues will run for about six weeks.
