New patch for The Blood of Dawnwalker removed that infamous red pipe and stopped dead people from talking to Coen

Rebel Wolves, the studio founded by CD Projekt RED veterans who worked on The Witcher 3, keeps supporting its vampire RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker with post-launch updates. The game only came out a few days ago, but the developers have already pushed out several hotfixes, and the latest one, patch 1.0.4, turned out to be especially memorable.

Alongside the usual bug fixes, the patch notes include a few entries that read more like comedy than serious changelog material. One line states that "torches can no longer grow uncontrollably." Apparently there was a bug where the light source would literally keep expanding without limit, eventually turning into something ridiculous.

Just as amusing is another fix: "dead NPCs can no longer start dialogues." Technically this addresses a bug where deceased characters, including guards or zombie nuns, could suddenly strike up a conversation with protagonist Coen. For anyone who never ran into this bug themselves, the idea of chatting with a corpse in the middle of a dungeon sounds like a plot twist all its own.

Worth a special mention is the removal of a placeholder asset the developers apparently left in the game prologue by accident. It was a bright red pipe with "DO NOT USE" written across it over and over, spotted by players in the silver mines. The studio phrased the fix this way: "We are no longer using that one red pipe asset we weren't supposed to use."

Despite the goofy wording, hotfix 1.0.4 carries plenty of genuine functional weight too. Rebel Wolves fixed a large number of bugs, crashes, and soft locks, and stated that overall game stability has improved. The developers continue refining the title piece by piece, addressing both critical and minor technical issues that inevitably surface after launching a big open-world RPG.

As for what comes next, Rebel Wolves is sticking to smaller patches for now, without major gameplay changes. Players are hoping for bigger updates down the line, possibly including a combat system rework, though the studio hasn't confirmed any such plans officially. For now, all that's left is to keep an eye on future The Blood of Dawnwalker updates and see whether the studio delivers another patch note full of unexpected surprises.
