Larian released chill beats Baldur's Gate 3 animation packed with mod and meme references

Larian released an unusual video on its YouTube channel Channel From Hell dedicated to Baldur's Gate 3. Instead of the usual livestreams and developer interviews, viewers got a half-hour animation in the "chill beats" style, paying tribute to mods and the game's community. The video titled Chill Demonic Beats To Long Rest To features a relaxed version of Raphael's Final Act, while Spud Gun Studios' animated versions of the origin companions relax at camp.

Each character is doing their own thing in the video. Wyll plays fetch with Scratch, Karlach tries to get a drink from a keg, Shadowheart meditates, Astarion paints, Gale studies magical books, and Lae'zel plays hacky sack with a severed mind flayer head – just typical camp activities. The video is packed with easter eggs, like a sign pointing to Baldursgata – a real place in Iceland whose street sign was discovered by Baldur's Gate fans years ago.

Numerous references connect to Larian's September video about launching official mod tools. Back then, the Wizard of Mod unleashed chaos on the Forgotten Realms, summoning giant rabbits and human noses for githyanki. These elements appear in the new animation too – a giant rabbit fetches Scratch's ball, though the good boy sometimes returns with Barcus instead of his toy.

The Wizard of Mod himself, wearing a traffic cone hat and wielding an eightball staff, turns Shadowheart into a tabaxi and transforms Karlach to look like Let Me Solo Her – a reference to the legendary Elden Ring player. Gale practices his mage hand cantrip on stew ingredients including a boot, presumably magical, then pulls out a Glock. Astarion's paintings include a Karlach so saucy it needed censoring, plus portraits of Larian CEO Swen Vincke and Handsome Astarion.
