The fifth season of Reacher will be based on the most "disgusting" book about the character

Reacher season 5 with Alan Ritchson just got new details. Lee Child, author of the Jack Reacher novel series and creator of the franchise, revealed that the new season adapts one of the darkest books about the character, calling the story "disgusting."

Make Me, which they are – that's going to be Season 5. How they're going to do that, I do not know, because that is a brutal story. I mean, it's a disgusting story, really.

It's not fit for family consumption, so I don't know what they're going to do about the actual crime in that. It is relatively rural, you know, the immense plains and cornfields and all of that.

The season adapts Make Me, the twentieth book in the Jack Reacher series and one of the darkest entries in Child's bibliography. The story kicks off when Reacher gets off a train at a remote Midwestern stop called Mother's Rest, just to find out why it has such an unusual name. There he meets private investigator Michelle Chang, who is looking for her missing partner, Keever. Together they uncover a dangerous conspiracy that extends far beyond the small town.

That's exactly why the author expressed curiosity about how Prime Video plans to bring the novel most disturbing material to the screen, given the format of the streaming platform.

Prime Video has officially renewed the show for a fifth season, with production already underway in Toronto. Filming wraps in December this year.

The cast includes Ritchson returning as Jack Reacher, Amanda Ip as Michelle Chang, Jay Baruchel as Chief Buck Bauer, Kevin Durand as Nokes, and Ciara Bravo as Eunice.

New episodes are expected to arrive in late summer or fall 2027.
