Rebel Wolves named 4 main problems of The Blood of Dawnwalker on PC and suggested temporary fixes

Vampire RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker launched with a handful of technical issues on PC. Rebel Wolves, a studio made up of CD Projekt RED veterans, has already published a list of the most common complaints and offered workarounds while patches are in the works.

Still, calling the launch a failure would be a stretch. The PC version sits at 84 on Metacritic, and Steam shows around 75 percent positive reviews out of more than 1,400 ratings.

Rebel Wolves posted the update on the game official X account, listing four issues players run into most often:

  • Game stuttering when in Windowed / Borderless mode – please try launching the game in Full Screen

  • Game crashing on compiling shaders – please update your BIOS, that should fix it

  • Missing option of mapping buttons on a PS5 gamepad – we're already working on it

  • Sprinting stops when changing directions on a gamepad – we're working on a fix, but in the meantime you can try changing the sensitivity of your controller from 1 to 0.8 (in the console settings)

The most serious of these, crashes during initial shader compilation, comes down to outdated firmware on Intel Core processors. The conflict shows up when BIOS interacts with the Oodle compression library and Unreal Engine.

Intel actually described the root cause of instability on its 13th and 14th gen desktop chips back in 2024. So anyone hitting these crashes should update their motherboard microcode regardless.

The advice about windowed mode is a lot less convenient. Running fullscreen fixes the stuttering, but it takes away the ability to quickly switch between applications, and proper optimization will have to wait for a future update.

Rebel Wolves brief post doesn't mention another frequent complaint – the thin set of accessibility options. Interface text and subtitles are small, and there's currently no way to scale them.

Rebel Wolves says work on fixes is ongoing, with several items on the list already in development.
