Modders launched DLSS 5 in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and Skyrim – performance loss up to 45% on RTX 5090

New footage of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 running with NVIDIA DLSS 5 has surfaced online. There is no before/after comparison yet, so it's too early to judge the actual improvement in image quality.

The choice of game for these experiments makes sense. The Warhorse Studios title runs great on PC and leaves plenty of performance headroom to spend on a heavier upscaler. According to early measurements, the current unofficial DLSS 5 implementation costs around 40-45% of the frame rate even on an RTX 5090.

Modder PureDark also managed to get DLSS 5 running in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and posted a video showing the results. The clip shows several characters with the tech turned on and off, making it possible to compare the level of detail. The build remains experimental and hasn't been made publicly available yet.

This whole wave of experiments kicked off after DLSS 5 DLL files leaked from NBA 2K27. Modders wasted no time swapping the libraries into other games without waiting for NVIDIA official toolkit release.

The first publicly available DLSS 5 mod has already come out. The new version of RenoDX adds support for DLSS 5 and Ray Reconstruction, though it only works with CONTROL. This is the first public build of the mod, so bugs and artifacts are expected.

NVIDIA plans to release DLSS 5 by the end of 2026. No exact release date has been given yet, and every current in-game implementation of the tech remains unofficial.
