Actor who played a key character in GTA 5 sent over 60 applications for a role in GTA 6 and never got a response

Robert Bogue, who played agent Steve Haines in Grand Theft Auto 5, recently opened up about his frustration with Rockstar Games.

According to the actor, he auditioned for more than 60 roles in Grand Theft Auto 6, but the studio never got back to him once.

Bogue made clear he wanted to return to the franchise in any capacity, even a small role, and genuinely hoped to keep working with the studio.

I'm a little disappointed with Rockstar. I had an amazing experience working with them before. Some of the producers I worked with are still there, and so are several directors whom I have a great deal of respect for. I really wanted to be part of GTA 6, but they turned me down.

I must have auditioned for more than 60 roles—some major, some minor. I didn't care how big the role was; I just wanted to be in the game. I didn't get any of them, and I never even heard back about a single one. Honestly, that was pretty discouraging.

At one point, Bogue even started to wonder if Rockstar had an unofficial policy against bringing back the same actors for different roles in different games.

Fans have speculated about this for a while, since the studio rarely casts the same performer in multiple major roles across its titles. Bogue said the theory made sense to him because he couldn't think of another explanation for that many rejections without a single reply.

Bogue himself is actually an exception to this unwritten rule. He voiced protagonist Red Harlow in Red Dead Revolver and played supporting character Troy in the GTA IV expansion The Ballad of Gay Tony.

So there's already precedent for him working across multiple Rockstar titles, which makes the situation even stranger.

So yes, there's definitely some disappointment and resentment. It feels like falling in love with someone, only for them to suddenly leave you. The only things I know about the game are small details I picked up from the script excerpts I read during the auditions.

GTA 6 is set to launch on consoles on November 19.
