Arrowhead doesn't have a dedicated balance team for Helldivers 2

One of Helldivers 2 support staffers has shed some light on how Arrowhead operates internally, pushing back against a widespread misconception about a dedicated balancing team.

Arrowhead staffer B Vitamin wrote on Discord that there is no "balance team" at the studio.

"It's all a team effort between several people and roles."

According to B Vitamin, the core issue is that players have no real idea how things work behind the scenes, which leads to bad assumptions that turn into misinformation – spreading until people accept it as fact.

"We have game designers and directors people who do these sorts of things but there isn't a 'balance team'. The actual changing of weapons is done by the people who make the weapons, decisions about what should be changed, when, and in what way is a team effort between designers and directors."

The context suggests B Vitamin made these clarifications in response to hostility directed at a specific Arrowhead employee known as Alexus, whom part of the community had pinned as the sole person responsible for balance. B Vitamin directly pushed back on that:

"He has far less to do with balance decisions than people assume."

B Vitamin also pointed out that no developer can simply change whatever they want without discussion and oversight, and the person who originally created something doesn't necessarily have the final say on whether it gets changed.

Alexus himself had previously addressed the Helldivers 2 community in an attempt to cool things down around the balancing discourse, referring to himself as "villain of the month" and stating that "the witch hunt has reached a level uncomfortable even for me."
