Gamers laugh at fans of realism in GTA 6 who will need sun visors on the windshield
The desire for realism in open-world games has long crossed the line where immersion ends and simulation of daily chores begins. First it's filling the tank with gas, then turn signals and seatbelts, and it's not far off from demanding you unfold a silver sunshade on the windshield so the interior doesn't turn into an oven.
That exact thought got pushed to its logical extreme in a community dedicated to GTA VI. The trigger was a collage of three photos of an ordinary reflective car sunshade, shot with the kind of loving attention to detail you'd expect from an auto accessories catalog.
The logic is airtight: the game takes place in the state of Leonida, modeled after Florida, where a car parked in the sun turns into a torture chamber within a couple of hours.
Funny thing is, the joke almost instantly spawned some genuinely workable gameplay ideas. One of the more interesting ones suggested using the sunshade as a way to hide from police, similar to Watch Dogs, where the character could duck down inside the car while cops searched the street.
Another take flipped the concept, turning it into an obstacle during carjacking: you hop into someone else's vehicle, the third-person camera cuts to black, and you're not going anywhere until you punch in the right button sequence.
A separate branch of imagination drifted toward temperature mechanics. Health bars draining from scorching leather seats, sweat stains on the back, AC that eats into horsepower and burns more fuel, meaning you'd have to use it strategically.
A former Florida resident jumped into the conversation with a fairly serious argument: car interiors there can heat up to almost 200 degrees Fahrenheit in summer, around 93 Celsius, and without tinted windows and a sunshade you're simply out of luck.
The satire didn't stop there. Someone demanded a full animation for folding up the sunshade, complete with Jason and Lucia struggling through it, with the folded shade actually sitting in the trunk afterward instead of vanishing into thin air. Someone else needled the crowd about the ongoing arguments over cut grocery store trips and the inability to sell fish. And the sharpest verdict landed like this:
Pretty sure those mfs would file their tax returns in-game for the sake of immersion.
Rockstar, meanwhile, is gearing up for a November 19 release, and somewhere between simulating sweaty palms and the next heist, it'll have to find that exact line.
