Fan comic based on Plants vs Zombies gained 25 million views thanks to new plant PiBlaze
Fan artist LeafPaw posted a short *Plants vs Zombies* comic that turned into one of the most talked-about pieces of fan art for the franchise within a week. The reason was a new character, a plant named PeaBlaze, who never existed in the original games.
Peashooter and Sunflower remain the series most recognizable characters since the first game took an unusual approach to zombies. Both returned in the 2025 remaster Plants vs Zombies: Replanted, but neither has drawn this kind of attention before.
The comic went up on August 26 and consists of just four panels captioned "He got an upgrade." In the opening panels, Peashooter watches another Peashooter kiss Sunflower and walks away dejected.
A new female plant then approaches him and says, "He took your girl, what a shame." Leaning in closer, she asks, "Want a better one?"
Within its first week alone, the post on X racked up more than 30 million views, 182,000 likes, and 49,000 bookmarks. LeafPaw later confirmed the character's name and asked followers whether the story should continue.
PeaBlaze almost immediately picked up fan art across X, DeviantArt, and other platforms. One artist drew a humanoid version of the character, while another user wrote, "PeaBlaze got me play pvz again."
Youtooz, which produces an extensive Plants vs Zombies collectibles range, also reacted to the comic. The studio's reply, an image of a visibly stunned zombie, collected thousands of likes on its own.
As fans joke, now everyone's waiting for "10 seasons, 3 spinoffs and a movie."
Some users openly admitted their attraction to the character, while others joked that they'd like to take Peashooter's place.
