Modern Warfare 4 developers will fix balding Captain Price – players nicknamed him "Lieutenant Receding"

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 developers have promised to fix Captain Price's look, whose haircut became a target for jokes during the beta test.

The beta kicked off on August 21, and throughout it, the team has been sorting out spawn points, time-to-kill, and weapon balance. But the biggest topic of discussion turned out to have nothing to do with combat systems at all – it was Task Force 141's leader's hair.

At the lowest graphics settings, Price's model loses nearly all of its detail: his hair turns into thin, scraggly clumps, and his beard doesn't fare much better. Screenshots spread across social media almost instantly, with players competing to come up with the best jokes.

Others played on the character's surname. Tweets started calling him "lieutenant Cost," "that ain't Price that's Amount," along with "sergeant discounts" and "private bill."

Price clearly isn't supposed to look like that even on low settings. The official CallofDutyCM account confirmed the bug and promised to fix it in a future update.

We're aware of an issue with Price's hair not appearing correctly when viewed at the lowest level of detail. The team will be addressing it in a future update. Ultimately this will not be an issue if players meet our recommended specs.

The issue comes down to the LOD system not working correctly – it's meant to simplify character models to save performance. When detail drops to its lowest level, Price's hair loses volume entirely instead of smoothly simplifying its geometry.

The bug is now listed on Infinity Ward's public Trello board of known issues, marked as "under investigation." The listing reads: Captain Price's hair does not appear correctly when viewing his character model at the lowest level of detail.

Developers haven't given a specific timeline for the fix.

The Open Beta arrives on August 28, and Campaign Early Access goes live on October 16.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 fully launches on October 23.
