Red Alert 2 fan created a 6-minute AI short film — even a former developer praised it

A six-minute AI short film that transplants the world of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 into reality dropped on August 20 and has already racked up around 13,000 views.

The video comes from the Claycustomize channel, and the description openly labels the work as fan-made and created for entertainment. YouTube also slapped its standard label on the video noting the content was generated or altered with AI.

The main draw is the Soviet hardware from the 2000 game, shown off in a pseudo-documentary style. The Kirov airship shows up on screen, along with Apocalypse and Rhino heavy tanks, plus the Allied Prism Tanks.

One viewer claimed to be a former Westwood Studios employee and praised the result, though there's no way to verify that claim.

The voice acting turned out to be a particularly weak spot here – a live Russian-speaking cast would have helped.

Interest in fan projects like this one feeds off the lack of an official modern version of the game. Red Alert 2 launched in 2000 courtesy of Westwood Studios, with the Yuri's Revenge expansion following a year later, and neither has received a remaster to this day. The 2020 remaster collection only covered the original Command & Conquer and the first Red Alert.

In February 2025, EA released restored source code for four games in the series on GitHub under a GPL license. Red Alert 2 and Tiberian Sun didn't make that list, even though both are sold on Steam as part of the Command & Conquer Ultimate Collection.
