Rapper Post Malone used the "One Ring" for the first time – the rarest and most expensive Magic: The Gathering card

Post Malone did what collectors everywhere feared – he put a card worth more than two million dollars into an actual game. The card in question is his one-of-a-kind copy of The One Ring from Magic: The Gathering, and yes, it really hit the table.

This particular card is the only copy ever made from the set based on The Lord of the Rings. The musician bought it in 2023 for over $2 million, instantly making it one of the most expensive cards in Magic: The Gathering history.

What makes the card unique goes beyond it being one of a kind. It's written in Sindarin, one of the elvish languages J.R.R. Tolkien created. Magic: The Gathering rules allow decks to mix cards in different languages, so The One Ring was perfectly legal to bring into battle.

The gamble paid off too – the card helped Post Malone win a four-player match. After a scene like that, collectors can only hope the card gets handled with care going forward.

The One Ring isn't just rare, it's also absurdly powerful. It's an Indestructible artifact that makes its controller immune to everything for a turn, then starts collecting Burden Counters on every following turn – each one draining a life but letting the player draw an extra card. The card is banned in Modern for a reason.

For comparison, the new set based on The Hobbit introduced a different version of the card called My Precious. It's significantly weaker and, unlike Post Malone copy, isn't a one-of-a-kind piece. That means players can throw it into casual games without risking millions of dollars in the process.
