One of the largest mods for Terraria is being shut down after the creator was accused of grooming
One of the biggest mods for Terraria is coming to an end. On August 10, the Calamity development team announced it was fully halting work on the modification, citing internal conflicts, a mass exodus of contributors, and a scandal surrounding the mod current owner.
Calamity first appeared in the mid-2010s and grew into something of an unofficial gold standard among Terraria mods over the years. It added dozens of bosses, hundreds of items, a new character class, unique biomes, and a ton of mechanics that stretched the original game far beyond its base form.
For a huge chunk of the community, Calamity basically became a must-have companion to the base game.
The collapse was triggered by allegations against the mod current owner, Ozzatron. In August, he was accused of grooming minors. Following these allegations, several developers and content creators announced they were leaving the team, and some demanded their assets be pulled from the mod entirely.
In the official statement, the team acknowledged that the problems go beyond the scandal itself. Many members said they feel betrayed, worn out by constant internal turmoil, and unwilling to keep working on a mod whose reputation they consider permanently damaged. Removing every asset that contributors asked to have taken down turned out to be technically impossible.
Making matters worse, Ozzatron has gone silent and stopped responding to the team. He holds sole control over the Calamity GitHub repository, and without him, the remaining team can't take any further steps – including handing off management or officially winding down support.
The team closed out their statement by thanking fans for years of support and said they hope former members will get the chance to bring their ideas to life on other projects.
