George Martin wrote in his blog for the first time in six months about 9 nominations for Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
George R.R. Martin published a post titled "Better Late Than Never" on August 3, marking his first personal entry on Not a Blog since February 19. Everything posted on the site in between came from assistants he calls his mighty minions. Even with their help, he says, the backlog kept growing.
The personal portion of the post turned out heavy. Martin wrote that he lost friends, struggled with sadness and depression, and added that the worst may still be ahead. He turned seventy-seven last September, and getting older, in his words, isn't fun at all.
He described future posts as short and rushed going forward, since there's simply too much accumulated material to cover. The entry contained no news about his book progress.
Martin called the Emmy nominations the year's brightest moment. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms picked up nine nominations, including one for outstanding drama series. The ceremony takes place on September 14, and Martin says he hopes to attend, though he noted that depends on a lot of factors.
He also admitted he'd hoped for acting nominations, which the cast didn't receive. Observers see the lack of acting nods as a sign the show is unlikely to win the top category.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premiered on HBO Max in January and February 2026, adapting the novella The Hedge Knight from the Dunk and Egg series. Episodes run around thirty minutes each, with a noticeably lighter tone than its predecessors.
House of the Dragon didn't get a single mention in the post. Martin previously slammed the adaptation of Fire & Blood for straying from the source material, even promising some kind of exposé before later deleting that statement. The second season of House of the Dragon missed a nomination in the top category, breaking a nine-season streak for the franchise, and the third season, which premiered on June 21, fell outside this year's eligibility window.
A second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has already been confirmed for 2027.
