Scene with Edward Kenway hinting at an expansion or new installment cut from Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced
A user named Sliderv2 has uploaded a YouTube video that appears to show recovered cut content from Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. The short post-credits scene runs a little over a minute and shows Edward Kenway returning to Britain several years after the events of Black Flag.
The scene never made it into the final build released in July.
The footage looks rough, and the scene was clearly scrapped very early in development. Sliderv2 pieced the video together from the game files. The action appears to take place in a London tavern.
Chronologically, the scene takes place five years after the end of Black Flag. By then, Edward has turned away from piracy and thrown himself into the work of the Assassin Brotherhood. After the events of the original game, he returned to England with his daughter, having lost many people close to him.
Kenway's later fate was never explored in the games. The standalone expansion Freedom Cry continued Adéwalé's story and showed his life after the 2013 game, with a bittersweet ending. After that, Adéwalé dropped out of sight again, resurfacing only in Assassin's Creed: Rogue in 2014, where he dies at the hands of Shay, the Assassin-turned-Templar.
The cut scene fills in part of that gap. It shows that Adéwalé was the only one to answer Edward's call for help in Britain. He turns up after five years to join his former captain and brother-in-arms.
The dialogue also makes clear that King George I has died, which dates the events to around 1727. The British Brotherhood has to rally to protect the "Isles."
The scene also introduces Miko, who co-leads the British Brotherhood with another Assassin. His role in the wider universe is minimal – he's the man Haytham Kenway kills in the opening minutes of Assassin's Creed 3 in 2012. Miko looks noticeably younger here, and he was never mentioned in Black Flag itself. The Assassin's Creed books tell more of his story.
The scene explains what Adéwalé was up to between Freedom Cry and Rogue, and shows how those games connect. It touches on Unity to some degree, too. It also reveals what Edward was doing after he returned to England.
An ending like this could have laid the groundwork for a new expansion or even a standalone game. Players could have controlled Edward in the prime of his Assassin career in London and the surrounding area, while he raises his son Haytham and daughter Jennifer.
An expansion would also have given Miko a backstory. Haytham, a Templar, got his hidden blades from Miko during a fight and later killed him with the very same weapons. The blades eventually passed to Connor in Assassin's Creed 3.
The cut scene will probably never officially appear in the game.
