Rusty car turned out to be the most dangerous Predator of the Wasteland in Fallout 4 due to typical Bethesda bugs
Some enemies in games you actually prepare for: you hear a deathclaw roar behind a hill, count your ammo, gear up in power armor. Others make no sound, don't show up on the compass, and kill instantly – and in Fallout 4, the reigning champion of that category has been a parked car for a decade now.
One player posted footage of farming legendary weapons near Boston Common, right after leaving Diamond City.
The plan seemed reasonable enough: stand on top of a car so mongrels can't reach you, then pick them off for legendary drops. The spot genuinely works, and the player walked away with an explosive double barrel shotgun from it. The car next to them, though, turned out to be a little too lightweight for its own good.
In the clip, the car body next to the dog slowly starts lifting into the air. The character has no idea what's happening, and then the rusty wreck kills them instantly on contact.
Technically, it all makes perfect sense. Creation Engine handles physics through Havok, and any object with mass that gets stuck inside someone else's collision box gets shoved out with force. That's exactly how you end up dead from full health in a split second.
This gets especially fun in survival mode, where the only way to save is by sleeping. One player recalled trying to jump over a Corvega on a bridge and losing several hours of progress in a single touch, and has been more scared of cars ever since than ant swarms or cave crickets.
Another player climbed onto a car near a mole rat den so the creatures couldn't jump at their feet, and got physics'd to death by the car long before the first mole rat even showed up.
Wasteland veterans seem to agree on one practical lesson here: blow up any undamaged cars before they get the chance to blow you up first.
