World of Warcraft: The Last Titan expansion will launch in 2027 and conclude a 20-year saga
Blizzard revealed the release window for World of Warcraft: The Last Titan during the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026. The twelfth expansion arrives in 2027 and closes out the "Worldsoul Saga," which began with The War Within in 2024 and continued with Midnight in March 2026.
A short cinematic teaser accompanied the announcement.
Ion Hazzikostas, executive creative director, laid out the scale of the project right from the stage:
This is the culmination of more than two decades of World of Warcraft
He immediately cautioned against expecting a tidy ending with every thread wrapped up. According to him, the expansion lays the groundwork for whatever comes next, and the story doesn't stop after Northrend.
The teaser showed a snow-covered Northrend and the Temple of the Dragon Queen, approached by a massive mechanical figure. Titan-built towers appeared on screen alongside what looked like a powerful directed-beam attack. Based on Blizzard descriptions, this points to the return of the Pantheon and a conspiracy that's been brewing for more than twenty years.
The studio withheld most details on purpose. Hazzikostas apologized for the lack of information and explained that going into specifics would spoil events players still need to experience in Midnight. A full reveal of the expansion is promised early next year, once the next major update wraps up.
Northrend won't just get reused as-is – the continent is being rebuilt from the ground up so familiar locations return reflecting the years that have passed, with Ulduar taking on a significant story role. Holly Longdale stated on stage that the team is bringing "war" back to Warcraft, promising armies, battles, and bloodshed instead of the current peaceful coexistence between the Horde and the Alliance.
Patch 12.2 "Eclipse" bridges Midnight and the new expansion. The update launches in early 2027 and will be the last major patch for the current expansion. Xal'atath finally reaches the world core and breaks through to the Worldsoul, setting up a direct confrontation with players.
What the update includes:
A new zone deep beneath Azeroth, half azerite crystal, half titan complex
The "Thraegar's Stand" dungeon with three bosses, including the titanic golem Stonewarg the Relentless
The "Worldcore" raid featuring eight bosses, with Xal'atath herself as the final encounter
A legendary dagger for spellcasters called "Midnight's Edge," unlocked through a quest chain tied to the raid
A "Calibration Chamber" for testing rotations on dummies, complete with cooldown resets and full raid buffs
A reworked PvP progression system with its own dedicated reward track
Story-wise, players team up with the Thraegar and run into the Deepscar, an underground faction focused on its own agenda that doesn't welcome outside interference. Patch 12.2.5 follows by removing armor-type restrictions on transmogrification, so a mage could wear plate armor visuals while a paladin dresses in cloth. Night elves, Forsaken, and Darkspear trolls will also gain access to the paladin class.
Two more updates come before "Eclipse." Patch 12.1.5 arrives this fall with labyrinths, a campaign, a mini-raid centered on Kith'ix, Akir invasions, and account-wide reputation progress for the whole party. Patch 12.1.7, titled Echoes of the Worldcore, introduces the Talebound mode.
Talebound is built as a roguelike-style action RPG playable solo or with friends. Players step into tales spun by a mysterious Narrator with a taste for the grim, working through themed levels packed with bosses, puzzles, and relics, then returning between runs to the village of Quillgrave to spend resources on talents and stats. Three classes are available so far, including the Ravager, built around guns, swords, and bombs, and the Inquisitor, who wields cleansing fire.
Summer 2027 brings the next entry in the Remix series, this time centered on Wrath of the Lich King – a fitting choice, since that expansion first took players to Northrend, the same place World of Warcraft: The Last Titan now returns to.
The Midnight roadmap runs through summer 2027 and wraps up with patch 12.2.7. Blizzard also used BlizzCon 2026 to announce World of Warcraft: Forever, launching November 4, and confirmed 2029 as the release year for Diablo 5.
