Streamer taught viewers how to call CJ's phone in GTA San Andreas live during the stream

Streamer Kreyg has built a custom Twitch integration for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas that lets viewers call CJ's in-game phone.

The system uses the original phone-answering animation – CJ pulls out his phone, and the viewer's message plays as the voice on the other end through text-to-speech. The message text also appears as on-screen subtitles.

Under the hood, the integration runs on plugin-sdk paired with a separate C# program that feeds Twitch chat data directly into the game session. This setup lets events get processed in real time without restarting the game.

Phone calls turned out to be just one part of the functionality. By spending bits, viewers can also spawn into the game as a friendly or hostile character, or trigger classic cheat codes mid-stream.

Kreyg added these extra features just a day after the phone call clip spread across social media on September 2, 2026. Requests to release the mod publicly started pouring in almost immediately.

A public release isn't planned for now, since the system requires manual setup.

At the moment it's not very plug n play and would be a bit of a hassle for people to set up and get it working properly

That said, the streamer hasn't ruled out the possibility down the line.

Given the interest, I would love to possibly make it available for everyone to use. That would however require a good bit of planning, testing and work on my end. For now I'll simply say it's TBD if/when it will release!

Kreyg is also planning similar integrations for GTA IV and Vice City, both of which also feature phone call mechanics. No timeline has been given yet.
