No Man's Sky player has compiled a catalog of 241 systems with colliding planets

A No Man's Sky fan updated their public list of star systems where planets crash into one another. The collection gained 57 new entries, bringing the total to 241 documented systems. The search covers 60 galaxies out of the 256 that exist in the game.

The catalog lives on Flickr as a photo album, with each entry accompanied by a screenshot of the system in question. The compiler runs it openly and takes submissions from other players. The list is available here.

Colliding planets happen because of quirks in procedural generation, where the spheres of two celestial bodies end up partially overlapping. Planets in the game don't rotate or orbit, so once a system generates this way, the configuration stays locked in forever. From the ground, it looks like a giant wall of another world rising straight out of the horizon.

The seam between the two planets behaves unpredictably and stands as one of the few spots in the game where players can lose progress without any enemies involved. Jetpacks near the border between planets produce barely any thrust, sometimes less than half a unit of lift, and crossing the point where the atmospheres merge sends the character falling through the surface into a body of water, taking damage in the process. Experienced explorers recommend backing up your save before visiting one of these systems.

What happens at the collision point:

  • gravity doubles, making jumping and jetpack flight barely functional

  • the character falls through the terrain into deep water

  • death crates with lost cargo become unreachable, stuck beneath the water

  • the game can crash

  • portals buried at the seam stop working entirely

The phenomenon has been known to the community since 2020 and has built its own culture around it since. The Collision Silnar system in the Poffia region hosted the community event Budullangr Unity District-7, where participants built bases right in the overlap zone. Twelve structures in that system doubled as launch points for jumping between the two merged worlds.

Similar collections used to exist as Steam guides, but this new list has become the largest of its kind.

The first 24 systems in the old guide took years to document, while the latest update added 57 entries in one go.
