Sony showed a new PS5 ad with differences in GTA 6 frames

Sony launched a new ad campaign called "It Happens On PS5," and the minute-long spot found room for the most anticipated game of the next few years. There's no new Grand Theft Auto VI footage in the video – every clip has already appeared in previous trailers. That didn't stop people from going through it frame by frame anyway.

Most of the attention went to a scene from the second trailer, released back in May 2025, showing Jason Duval hanging onto the back of a convertible while Lucia drives. The X account DriftRespawn noticed that this PS5 ad presents the clip a bit differently than before. Comparing the two versions turned up several discrepancies.

  • full-screen framing instead of the cinematic black bars on top and bottom

  • a noticeably brighter overall look during the chase scene

  • less defined eyebrows on Lucia

  • a more chestnut shade to her hair

Some of these differences could come down to something as simple as lighting – changed lighting can affect both how hair color reads and how facial features get rendered. Games shift throughout development, and small tweaks to character models for a project of this scale seem pretty routine at this point. There will be plenty more material for comparisons very soon.

Rockstar plans to show an extended demonstration of Grand Theft Auto VI on August 27, titled An Extended Look. It'll be the first full demonstration of the game since that second trailer.

Besides GTA 6, the ad also featured Marvel's Wolverine and God of War Laufey. The scene with Jason on a motorcycle as a seaplane flies low overhead shows up on a billboard modeled after a real building in Warsaw.

GTA 6 is set to release on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series.
