Xenonauts 2 is leaving early access in April with new enemies, reworked maps, and mod support
Goldhawk Interactive has announced that tactical strategy game Xenonauts 2 will be leaving early access next month. After nearly three years of development updates, the game is getting a major 1.0 patch – what the studio calls its seventh and final milestone.
The headline addition is alien praetorians. The new enemy type promises to have your squad moving as nervously as Ripley aboard the Nostromo. No actual Xenomorphs here, but praetorians will likely be just as miserable to deal with as the Praetors from the original Xenonauts – enemies that could literally reduce your soldiers' action points through sheer aura alone.
Xenonauts 2 has gone through plenty of design iterations during early access. Goldhawk kept reworking systems throughout – Milestone 6 brought a major air combat overhaul, for example. Version 1.0 also reworks two original maps: the Farm and the small UFO.
Full Steam Workshop integration is also coming with the 1.0 launch, having been absent throughout early access entirely. The original Xenonauts built up a solid mod scene with quality-of-life tweaks, new weapons, and even a community expansion. Now the sequel will have the same opportunity.
Xenonauts 2 1.0 is set for April 2, 2026.
The game is currently available in Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.
