Modder turned Shadowheart into a cat after Larian animation and community is thrilled

A fan of Baldur's Gate 3 released the Cat Shadowheart mod, transforming the popular companion into a tabaxi – a feline race from the D&D universe. The modification appeared right after Larian released the Chill Demonic Beats To Long Rest To animation, where the Mod Wizard briefly transforms Shadowheart into exactly such a creature.

Mod creator sharlse1 used CobaltOwl's tabaxi mod as a foundation, adapting the model specifically to match the appearance of Shar's cleric. The modification is available on Nexus Mods and mod.io, fully supports character appearance changes after Act 2, and works with all major cutscenes.

Community reaction was diverse – some started joking about Khajiit, while others suggested renaming the character to Shadowcat or Catheart.

Some even recalled the infamous 2019 musical film adaptation of Cats, noting similarities to that movie's uncanny aesthetic.

Part of the playerbase treated the mod as cursed content, but most responded positively – among them were those who cautiously noted "I hope this doesn't awaken something in me" (a clear reference to the Community series).

Technically, the modification is well-executed, though some noted the muzzle looks too flat and resembles a painted human face. Several commenters complained about the absence of Shadowheart's characteristic scar in the feline version. An improved version may appear later.
