Modder turns all griffins in The Witcher 3 into legendary low-poly pigeons
Modder grapedia released Low-Poly Pigeon – The Revenge for The Witcher 3. The mod turns every Griffin in the game into the angular bird players know from the long-running meme.
For anyone out of the loop, The Witcher 3 has an NPC pigeon with distinctly outdated textures. Most of the fantasy world looks smooth and detailed, while this bird is built from rough polygons, as if it flew in from Primal on the PS2.
Players fell for the pigeon, and CD Projekt RED has left it untouched for 11 years. The bird even survived the substantial graphics overhaul in the new The Witcher 3 remaster, having long since become an unofficial symbol of the game.
But the blocky pigeon never had any relatives that looked like it. The mod fixes that by replacing the models of every Griffin on Geralt of Rivia's path with rectangular birds. The mod description starts with the words:
He is back. And he is tired of being ridiculed.
The author explains in detail what exactly changes in the game:
Every Griffin encounter, every hunt and every supposedly terrifying aerial attack is now carried out by the same bird you once laughed at. Their sounds have also been replaced with pigeon cooing, so they will calmly announce their arrival before trying to kill you.
The modder added that the pigeon never had a chance to answer its tormentors: "He could not fight back on the internet. He could not stop the memes. But here, in the Northern Realms, things are different. The pigeon finally has claws, wings, several thousand hit points and absolutely nothing left to lose."
