Alex Hirsh does not intend to make a third season of "Gravity Falls"

Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch confirmed he has no plans to make a third season of the animated series, despite massive renewed interest in the show a decade after its finale.

Hirsch says the success of The Book of Bill caught him off guard. The book got a huge response, especially on TikTok, and interest in Gravity Falls surged again as a result. According to Hirsch, the show has also seen a fresh spike in viewership on Disney+.

Hirsch believes one of the main reasons Gravity Falls has stayed popular for so long comes down to its sense of closure. The story was always meant to cover one strange summer, with Dipper and Mabel growing from kids into teenagers, Stan reuniting with his brother Ford, the mystery of the journals getting solved, and everything building to the showdown with Bill Cipher.

I have no intention of ever making a third season of Gravity Falls.

He argued that a continuation along the lines of "now they have a long-lost third triplet who goes to Mars with a talking car" would just undermine the feeling of a complete story.

That said, Hirsch isn't walking away from the universe entirely. Over the past ten years since the finale, he has already released extra material, including The Book of Bill, and an art book called The Art of Gravity Falls, covering the making of the show, comes out on September 15.

Hirsch also talked about how much fans shaped the show direction. When Bill Cipher first showed up in season one, the creators hadn't planned on making him the main villain. But the reaction from viewers was strong enough that the team decided to listen and push the character to the forefront in season two.

Alex Hirsch admits that when he made the show, he only expected a small group of viewers who would pause episodes, hunt for easter eggs, and try to crack hidden puzzles. Instead, Gravity Falls ended up building a massive fan community that still debates theories years after the finale.
