Watch Dogs: Legion rumored to get a director's cut with a "fully night mode"

The Watch Dogs franchise has been quiet since Watch Dogs: Legion launched in 2020. Ubisoft has shown little visible interest in reviving the series, even as a feature film adaptation remains in development. But according to recent rumors, the publisher hasn't completely forgotten the franchise exists.

Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, who previously reported that the series as we know it is "dead", now says some work on the franchise is actually happening. It's not a new game, though – instead, Legion may be getting a director's cut with new content.

"I've heard that they might do like a fully night mode version of the game or something like that."

New motion capture is reportedly underway, pointing to new story material. Henderson described this as "kind of Ubisoft's new thing, I think. Trying to do Director's Cuts and new versions of games that they've already done. Like remasters in a sense as well, right?"

He also theorized that these projects are filling the gap while Ubisoft sorts out "the rest of the company," and suggested an announcement could come within the next few months.

The rumor lines up with what insider shinobi602 has claimed – that the franchise isn't entirely dead, just not getting a new entry or a full remake. Whatever is in the works seems aimed at existing fans rather than a broader relaunch.

As for why Legion specifically, the reasoning is fairly straightforward: it's a current-gen title, which means less work is needed to update it. Henderson also didn't rule out that the rumored Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag remake fits into the same broader Ubisoft strategy – though that project clearly has significantly more resources behind it, which may explain why it's reportedly been pushed to next year.
