World of Warcraft players dream of $1,000 walking house mounts and recall a prophetic fan concept

With the housing system coming to World of Warcraft in the Midnight expansion, players on Reddit have sparked a lively discussion about when Blizzard will start selling truly absurd mounts.

User Tastyapplepies posted a thread asking "When does the $999.99 mount drop?" and the community happily ran with it.

The post's image features a concept called the "Walking Cottage" – a fully realized Alliance home complete with a blue roof, fireplace, and garden, all perched on stone legs.

There's also a Horde version called the "Walking Hut," done up in a desert style with a palm tree and totems. Both concepts are presented as proper in-game items with a tooltip that reads: "Don't like your neighbor? Pack up and hit the road in your mobile home to find the perfect place to live."

The twist is that fan artist Fishbones06 created these concepts four years ago, long before any housing system was ever announced. The posts racked up thousands of upvotes at the time, with the community begging Blizzard to hire the artist. Fishbones06 acknowledged the idea was intentionally absurd and wouldn't work as an actual mount, but floated the idea of it as a roaming open-world mob instead.

Now that housing in *World of Warcraft* is actually happening, the old concept has taken on a new life. Imagine an entire raid group mounting up on one of these things. Get enough of them together and you've got your own Mortal Engines scenario rolling through Azeroth.

Plenty of commenters brought up Baba Yaga's hut and demanded a chicken-legged version. Fishbones06 did in fact draw one of those too, which only sent the thread into further excitement.

Many players admitted they would genuinely buy a mount like this – just not for a thousand dollars. Suggestions poured in for adding a mailbox, an auction house, a portal room, and even a rested XP area. Some said they'd accept a movement speed penalty without complaint for the chance to roam Azeroth in their own walking cottage.

Curiously, Fishbones06 hasn't been active on Reddit for over a year, with the last post dating back three years. The community, though, keeps returning to the artist's concepts with genuine affection, and calls for Blizzard to take notice of the talented fan are still showing up in the comments.
