Total War: Warhammer 3 receives Lords of the End Times DLC – some believe it could have been a full-fledged fourth installment

Creative Assembly released the Lords of the End Times expansion for the strategy game Total War: Warhammer 3. The expansion adds four new Legendary Lords and more than 50 new units and characters.

Some fans genuinely believe it could have easily passed as a fourth entry in the series.

The bundle brings Nagash, Thanquol, Boris Todbringer and the Glottkin brothers into the fold – each of these warlords comes with a distinct combat style and their own storyline.

Nagash, the Undying King, has reached unprecedented power and returned to wipe out the living, bend the dead to his will and achieve true godhood. He raises necropolises that drain life from surrounding lands and boosts his Black Pyramid with powerful upgrades. In battle, Nagash casts spells from a new school of undeath magic and raises entire hordes of the dead from the ground.

The three Glottkin brothers, marked by Nurgle before they were even born, rank among the plague god greatest champions. Spreading chaos and harvesting souls earns them powerful blessings, while their gardens of nurgling supply demonic reinforcements. In combat, these Chaos and Nurgle commanders fight as a single force, blending brute strength with destructive magic.

Thanquol, the treacherous Grey Seer serving the Council of Thirteen, wants to turn his own failures into victories at someone else expense. He weaves intrigue with real skill, sowing hatred, death and destruction while treating war, economy and magic as tools to get what he wants. On the battlefield, this Skaven commander rides atop the Boneripper and unleashes powerful spells from the schools of plague and ruin.

Boris Todbringer, Elector Count of Middenland, has sworn to defend the Empire and craves revenge against Azhag the Slaughterer. The lord intends to restore the great temple of Ulric, which provides substantial support to both soldiers and civilians fighting the Empire enemies. In battle, Boris relies on melee weapons and fights with the ferocity befitting a son of Ulric winter wolf.

Alongside the new lords, Update 9.0 – released at the same time – reworked the Vampire Counts faction and added a new Legendary Hero, Neferata. The developers also overhauled the victory conditions system for campaigns, rebalancing the paths to triumph between economic, military and occult routes.

The expansion contents include:

  • 4 Legendary Lords;

  • 8 Legendary Heroes;

  • 5 regular lords and heroes;

  • 23 units;

  • 12 renowned regiments;

  • new mechanics, campaign goals and gameplay features.

Each new warlord comes with a distinct playstyle:

  • Nagash drains life from the world to become a god;

  • the Glottkin cultivate gardens of nurgling and spread plague;

  • Thanquol weaves intrigue and manipulates his enemies;

  • Boris Todbringer kindles the fire of Ulric to defend the Empire.

The Lords of the End Times expansion for Total War: Warhammer 3 is now available on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
