Mod with 725 thousand downloads to be officially included in The Witcher 3 Remastered

CD Projekt RED brought in one of the community most well-known modders to work on The Witcher 3 Remastered. The developer in question goes by "HalkHogan" and created The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project NextGen Edition. His work will be built directly into the game.

The HD Reworked Project mod spent years doing exactly what the official remaster now aims to do – overhauling textures and models for a more modern look. After the announcement of The Witcher 3 Remastered, fans wondered what would happen to the mod and whether it would still matter.

Turns out it'll be relevant indeed. HalkHogan posted an update on Nexus Mods confirming his cooperation with the studio and revealing the date his work becomes part of the game across all platforms.

It's been a while since the last news and I would like to clarify any questions and confirm that I am cooperating with CDPR on the Witcher 3 Remaster and my work will be officially available in the game on September 29th (on PC and consoles). HDRP will no longer be needed.

The modder broke down the scope of his work separately, noting that the overhaul touches a huge chunk of the game visual content, from monster designs to the main character gear.

Almost all in-game characters, monsters, animals, vegetation, armors, and equipment for Geralt and Roach, and a large part of the environment, have been reworked. And I've put a lot of effort into ensuring the highest quality.

HD Reworked Project NextGen Edition racked up 725,582 downloads and stood as one of the first entries on any list of must-have mods for the game. Once the remaster launches, installing the mod separately won loses its point since the same assets will already be built in.

CD Projekt Red isn building the remaster around graphics alone. The studio promises an improved combat system alongside a full visual overhaul, making this update far more ambitious than the previous next-gen patch for PS5 and Xbox Series.
