Vibrant world, charming heroes, and heavy storytelling in the first trailer for tactical JRPG Alarial's Blessing
HexaNeph Games unveiled the first trailer for Alarial's Blessing – a turn-based RPG for mature audiences that reimagines classic JRPG elements. The project combines a modern approach to 2D top-down gameplay with traditional hand-drawn animation. Gameplay emphasizes story, world exploration, and tactical combat.
Players will travel with a mercenary party – Kal, Tyranel, and Mina, who wander the continent of Vollun, taking contracts, battling monsters, and helping eccentric clients. As the story unfolds, simple tasks take on unexpected weight, decisions leave lasting consequences, and relationships between characters are tested. A goddess watches over it all, her interest in the heroes remaining a mystery.
One of the key features of Alarial's Blessing is its unique combat system. The game has no random encounters – every battle is hand-crafted and presents a tactical challenge close to a boss fight. Battles unfold like chess matches, where movement across the battlefield, positioning, and use of environmental objects are critical. Arena size and shape vary depending on location.
The game abandons direct quest tracking – instead, Kal records important information in a journal, and players must analyze details themselves to progress. Conversations with locals reveal rumors that can lead to unexpected discoveries. Maps of varying quality help with navigation, but some may lead to dangerous places or hidden treasures.
Each of the three characters has a unique progression system and talent tree, allowing you to customize the party to your individual playstyle. The developers emphasize that no builds are invalid – any combination of abilities can prove effective.
The release date for Alarial's Blessing has not yet been announced.
