Fallout 3 remaster still in development, but Bethesda chose a questionable quality benchmark

According to recent insider reports, the Fallout 3 remaster continues development despite fans' recent disappointment with a mysterious countdown. According to a new report, Bethesda aims to ensure quality on par with Oblivion Remastered – which could be either good or bad news depending on your perspective.

The existence of a Fallout 3 remaster has become an open secret. Multiple reliable reports about its development have emerged, and now Tom Warren from The Verge has joined them.

The game is still in active development, and I understand Bethesda is keen to ensure it's as well polished as the surprise release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered last year.

The problem is that being "as well polished" as Oblivion Remastered sets a fairly low bar. Last year's upgraded release brought gorgeous new visuals to the classic open-world RPG, but completely preserved the technical flaws of the 2006 original – both amusing and problematic ones alike.

Frame rate drops and crashes continue to plague some players of the remaster even now. However, this hasn't significantly impacted the game's success. Moreover, a Fallout 3 remaster in exactly the same format would clearly sell even better, considering the TV show's popularity. So its release is just a matter of time. Perhaps as early as next year.
