Skyrim players share stories about the strangest guests at their virtual weddings
Weddings in Skyrim sometimes turn into surrealist events thanks to the game's unpredictable guest selection system. The game automatically invites NPCs that the character has previously interacted with to the ceremony, without considering the nature of those interactions. The result – celebrations attended by enemies, random passersby, and even dragon skeletons. Another story from Reddit demonstrated just how absurd these situations can get.
One player discovered an unexpected guest at their wedding – a hostile Thalmor wizard named Agent Lorcalin, whom the character had never actually met. Moreover, the NPC was floating in the air instead of sitting in a chair. Lorcalin normally only appears during the "Elisif's Tribute" quest near the Shrine of Talos, where he attacks the player on Thalmor orders.
This player's situation looked particularly amusing – their Altmer character had joined the Thalmor through mods, killed the Talos preacher Heimskr, and received a hostile Thalmor agent as a wedding guest. The game's friendship system worked paradoxically – Lorcalin became an "old friend that no one had ever seen."
Other gamers also noted unusual guests – one had Gabriella from the Dark Brotherhood show up at their wedding, and instead of assassination, she sweetly congratulated the newlyweds. Another discovered Jarl Balgruuf among the guests, who at that moment was under house arrest in Solitude's palace after defeat in the civil war – apparently, he was released on his word of honor for the ceremonial event.
Some players encountered random blacksmith merchants they had actively traded with but never completed quests for. The most surrealist case – a player whose wedding was attended by a set of dragon bones. Bethesda's system simply does what it does best – creates unforgettable bugs that turn ordinary game events into comedic situations.
