Civilization 6 player narrowly avoids unique death at game start as meteorite strikes opening position after first turn
Imagine starting your civilization's history after narrowly escaping catastrophic annihilation from a falling meteorite – directly onto the spot where your settlers had just stood. Such an event would certainly prompt thoughts about gods and divine judgment. And that's exactly what happened during one Civilization 6 session.
Gamer cickist shared an absolutely unique situation in Civilization VI – immediately after moving their settler from the starting tile, a meteorite crashed onto that exact location. The player interpreted this as a sign from the gods that they had correctly identified where NOT to found their city.
However, as Civ 6 veterans know, meteor showers don't kill units – they only destroy cities and districts. But if the player had founded a settlement on the first turn at the original tile, their civilization would have been instantly wiped out.
Another player recounted losing half their districts to massive meteorites late in an Apocalypse mode game, while in a different session a meteorite obliterated a city center with a massive Ruhr Valley.
Some commenters suggested the gods deliberately pointed out the wrong location for settlement – or conversely, hinted at exactly where not to settle.
Amusingly, the reward for correctly deciding to move the settler was a free chariot that spawned at the meteorite impact site. The gamer admitted it helped easily crush Gilgamesh – a dangerous opponent in Civ's early stages.
Worth noting that the probability of natural disasters at the very start of a game, while low, is never zero. This approach could actually inspire a separate game mode – each civilization faces its own catastrophes and must survive by any means necessary.
