New The Walking Dead spin-offs are already in development, but they'll be released less frequently

The Walking Dead universe isn't slowing down anytime soon. Franchise boss Scott M. Gimple confirmed that new shows are in the works, though the pace of releases is about to change.

AMC has been cranking out content at a rapid clip lately. The universe has already produced Daryl Dixon, Dead City, The Ones Who Live, Fear the Walking Dead, World Beyond, and the anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead. In the 2020s alone, the franchise has put out 14 seasons across its various shows – double the output of the first six years combined.

Gimple says that breakneck speed isn't sustainable going forward. More projects are coming, but there will be bigger gaps between releases.

He stressed that The Walking Dead isn't wrapping up on television anytime soon. Gimple actually believes the franchise is only about halfway through its lifespan.

One of the biggest things on the horizon is a potential crossover bringing together characters from different spin-offs. Gimple confirmed the team has "all sorts of plans" for this, though no timeline has been revealed yet.

The near-term schedule is already set. Dead City season three wraps up in September, while Daryl Dixon gets its fourth and final season in 2027. That last season will follow Daryl and Carol as they try to leave Europe and make it back to the US – a move that could set up a larger reunion of characters down the line.
