Cities Skylines player built the worst place to live – next to a crematorium, a waste incineration plant, a sewage outlet, and an airport

Even the most talented and skilled architect gets tired of building practical, comfortable, and attractive places to live sometimes. That's when they turn to experiments that make you understand why comic book villains do what they do.

A Cities Skylines player going by Home_Min_Boss posted a single screenshot showing a living space that would only suit robots. Because surviving there as a human would be brutal.

The goal was to cram as many in-game irritants as possible around a single house.

Several objects ended up clustered around the building, each one city planners typically keep far away from residential areas:

  • a garbage incineration plant with a constant plume of smoke

  • a crematorium right next to the house

  • a sewage outflow pipe

  • a railway line

  • an airship route directly overhead

  • an airplane takeoff path

The idea was simple – the stench lingers around the clock while the noise keeps residents awake day and night. In the game simulation, that combination works exactly as expected. Noise pollution affects land value, and when noise levels get high enough, values drop below normal, dragging building quality down with them.

The mechanic goes further than just tanking property values. The game treats noise more like a disease than a mere annoyance, and citizens get sick and die from it in large numbers. Combined with ground and air pollution from the incinerator, the area turns into a zone the simulation quickly empties out.

Builds like this have long formed their own niche within the city-building sim community. Deliberately nightmarish layouts count as their own genre, letting players run their own little villain experiments without consequences.

Suggestions for making the location even worse included adding a multi-level highway interchange above the house so the smog can't disperse. Someone also proposed pointing the factory chimney directly at the windows.
