No Man's Sky to receive major Cosmos update 10 years after release

About a decade ago, Hello Games launched its long-awaited space game No Man's Sky. The launch was shaky, to put it mildly, but every update since has helped turn the 2016 title into a full-fledged entry in its genre rather than a forgettable disappointment.

And Hello Games isn't slowing down.

The developer is once again working on a new update for No Man's Sky, hardly the first such announcement over the years of support. The update is called Cosmos, and based on early signs, it seems to focus less on the planetary side of things and more on what happens beyond each planet. Still, it's too early to draw firm conclusions.

Among the possible directions, fans point to a bigger emphasis on space travel or a rework of the game's current "ending."

Cosmos follows other major additions to No Man's Sky. Earlier this year, Hello Games released the massive Xeno Arena update, adding a creature battle system in the style of Pokemon and Palworld. Fans had been requesting this mechanic for almost two years.

That's proof Hello Games still has plenty planned for No Man's Sky even a decade after launch. Then again, for this survival game, that's simply become the norm.
