Patrick Wilson will play Abby's father in The Last of Us season 3

Patrick Wilson and Jason Ritter have joined the cast of The Last of Us season 3. According to Variety, Ritter will play a WLF agent, while Wilson is set to portray Jerry Anderson – the Firefly surgeon Joel killed in the season 1 finale, robbing humanity of its last shot at a cordyceps vaccine.

The series is based on the Naughty Dog games. Season 1 adapted The Last of Us Part 1, with seasons 2 and 3 covering The Last of Us Part 2 – which shifts focus away from Joel (Pedro Pascal) to a now-adult Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and new key character Abby, played by Kaitlyn Dever.

Given how dense the second game's story is, showrunner Craig Mazin had previously suggested they might need two or three more seasons to do it justice. Recent reports, however, indicate that season 3 will likely be the last.

Mazin is now running the show solo following the surprise departure of Neil Druckmann, one of the creators of the original games.

The Last of Us season 3 is scheduled to premiere in 2027.
