Fallout 76 finally adds Bigfoot, and he's furious
The Backwoods update for Fallout 76 launched on March 3, and its headline addition is Bigfoot. Somehow, the legendary creature from American folklore had never appeared in a game built entirely around mythological beasts and the forests of Appalachia.
Bigfoot is one of the new "party crashers" that can now show up after a public event wraps up. These especially dangerous enemies have nothing to do with the main event objective, so players can choose whether to engage or simply walk away.
The time window to bring them down is tight, but the rewards are worth it. Three-star crashers drop a pair of three-star items, while the four-star Bigfoot guarantees a four-star legendary – something that was previously only available from the Gleaming Depths raid.
Bigfoot's four-star drop pool is "a reduced set" compared to what the raid offers, but he comes with an exclusive reward of his own: the Thrill Seeker's mod.
There's no quest attached to him – the team wanted the encounter to feel spontaneous. That said, during the first week after launch, Bigfoot's spawn rate is boosted and he gets a dedicated hourly playlist slot, so missing him early on will take some effort.
Bigfoot can appear at various locations across the map, while other cryptids are tied to specific public events, each one thematically matched to the activity it crashes. After the launch-week boost fades, these encounters become less frequent, though at least one should appear every hour.
Beyond Bigfoot, Backwoods reworks the public events system. Bethesda now draws a distinction between smaller "activities" built for one to four players and larger-scale "public events." Events that tended to drag have been tightened up – NPC patrols move faster, timers are shorter, and new enemy types have been added. Ranged Floaters, for instance, are designed to push players off rooftops. Enemy levels now scale to match the group, capping at 125.
All events and activities now draw from global loot tables, with improved rewards across the board.
Other changes include more valuable U-Mine-It maps, updated lockbox loot scaled to cracking difficulty, snappier Pip-Boy menus, and new vanity lights in photo mode.
The Backwoods update for Fallout 76 is available on PC via Steam and the Xbox app, and is included with Game Pass.
