Verminsteel is a hack-and-slash where a crow warrior fights fascist hordes, from the SkateBIRD developer

Glass Bottom Games, the studio behind SkateBIRD, has announced Verminsteel – an anthropomorphic hack-and-slash action game coming to PC via Steam in 2027 (Steam page here).

You play as a crow warrior fighting alongside a crew of fuzzy allies against the occupying fascist forces of the Verminsteel organization. Set across the fictional countryside of Fragaria, the game throws you into cinematic battles against thousands of enemies at once – rats, pigs, hawks, stoats, and more – with an arsenal that ranges from broadswords and frying pans to Molotov cocktails.

Combat is built around combo attacks and capturing strategic points on the battlefield. Beyond the main crow character, you can switch mid-fight to Clod the badger and Cookie the rat, each with their own specialized skills. Townsfolk you rescue along the way join the revolution and become controllable allies – send them into battle with arrow volleys or charges. Weapons are split into three distinct classes, all upgradeable as you progress.

Glass Bottom Games founder Megan Fox explained the idea behind the project:

"Neighbors coming together to defend the community is the founding principle driving Crow and their friends forward throughout their quest, and is a principle we as humans must remember as well. We hope Verminsteel in some small way inspires others to seek out their community and find where they can help, or even organize efforts themselves if need be."

The soundtrack is described as original hardcore bardcore, written specifically for the game. The studio also made a point of confirming that no generative AI was used in development.
