Project DNA gameplay trailer reveals post-apocalyptic MMORPG with genetic evolution system
Supervoid has dropped the first gameplay trailer for Project DNA – a post-apocalyptic MMORPG set in 2046, after an asteroid impact leaves Earth in ruins. The few survivors retreat to underground bunkers and push biotechnology to its limits, giving rise to the first humans with supernatural abilities. A core part of the lore is the ability to cultivate bodies and transfer memories, effectively making immortality real. Now, this evolved humanity prepares to fight for the rebirth of civilization.
Built on Unreal Engine 5 and targeting PC, the game leans into tactical action with manual controls – dodging, blocking, and attacking all require deliberate input rather than automation. A standout mechanic is the evolution system powered by genetic algorithms, where characters develop across generations, adapting and gaining new traits through DNA analysis. Each hero is tied to one of the elemental attributes and uses it in combat.
Six playable characters have been announced, each with a distinct backstory and elemental affiliation:
Rai specializes in lightning and bets on mechanical augmentation, viewing the path of the "Perfect Human" as the only way forward
Serena controls water and believes that being "chosen" comes with moral and social responsibility
Nadia embodies air and finds meaning in the simple joys of life after surviving the catastrophe
Calien commands fire and was the first to lead surface exploration as Earth's atmosphere began to shift
Mari is bound to earth and is slowly reconsidering her cynicism as she witnesses humanity's will to survive
Vicki represents darkness and takes pleasure in putting others in impossible situations just to watch them struggle
Beyond combat, Project DNA promises a living open world with its own politics, economy, and social structures, with cooperative exploration positioned as a central part of the experience.
No release date has been announced yet – Project DNA is coming to PC.
