Resident Evil Requiem director reveals unique replay value – use Leon to steamroll zombies you're too scared to face as Grace

Resident Evil Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi revealed a fresh approach to replayability tied to the game's dual protagonists. In a PlayStation Blog interview, the developer disclosed a critical detail – enemies and items persist when switching between characters in the same location.

Here's how it works: if Grace takes down zombies in a specific area, those enemies remain dead when switching to Leon, and the same applies to items on the ground. However, Grace, who constantly struggles with ammunition shortages, can't handle all threats. According to Nakanishi, using Leon to clear out enemies Grace fled from became one of the game's standout features.

This system unlocks strategic possibilities for players. You can balance combat loads between characters, properly distribute resources, and choose optimal approaches for each situation. Grace is a timid, anxious newcomer, while Leon is a battle-tested veteran who's perhaps grown a bit too comfortable with his new ax.

The more you play, the more you discover how actions in one part affect the other, so it creates a different kind of replay value compared to previous games in the series.

This approach will especially appeal to those who prefer avoiding direct confrontations, allowing switches to the more combat-capable character during critical moments. The real question is which closet Leon's hiding in while Grace runs from zombies.

Resident Evil Requiem launches February 27 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2.
