Code Vein 2 players celebrate busty characters but criticize underwear censorship

Code Vein 2 launched this week and immediately sparked controversy. The series traditionally attracted players not only with soulslike gameplay but also with a generous character creator allowing the design of heroines with curvaceous figures. However, in the sequel, Bandai Namco made significant changes to costume design, triggering sharp reactions from fans of the original.

Steam user Shylaar pointed out that black shorts now appear under all skirts, even when developers copy outfits from the first game that featured underwear.

Even the bath towel now comes with black shorts.

Additionally, the game switched to Body Type 1 and Body Type 2 designations instead of traditional gender categories, part of the publisher's updated diversity and inclusivity policy.

The costume of popular character Io also underwent substantial changes compared to the original design. Another gamer expressed disappointment:

I genuinely believe games should stay true to their original design. There's no point in such unnecessary changes.

However, not all players are concerned about censorship. Many enthusiastically share their creations from the character editor, spending an hour and a half crafting the perfect heroine.

For instance, dewliciouz noted that the game's photo mode turned out amazing, clearly hinting at its primary purpose. Japanese players actively post screenshots of their characters with enthusiastic comments about sizes and proportions.

Meanwhile, other users point out that the game still offers sufficient freedom in character creation despite the added restrictions.
