Fable Fans Dream Not of Heroics, but of Becoming Landlords with Eviction Rights

Playground Games showed off gameplay for the new Fable last week, announcing a release for autumn 2026. The game will feature a massive open world, a customizable protagonist, tons of inclusivity, but unfortunately no canine companion. We also saw a Cocatrice, Hobs, and plenty of magical abilities, but the most fantastical part turned out to be the ability to become a property owner.

The showcase revealed that players can buy properties and businesses across Albion – with enough success you can purchase absolutely everything and become a mega-landlord. Judging by reactions, fans are anticipating this feature more than anything else. Sure, the game lacks the iconic mechanic where the protagonist's appearance changes based on actions, but who needs that when rent money flows into your pockets while you do absolutely nothing.

Larian publishing director Michael Dause noted:

You can tell Fable is a fantasy role-playing game because in it you can become a landlord.

And Windows Central's Jez Corden is eagerly awaiting the opportunity to evict tenants:

I'm gonna be the worst Fable landlord in history.

People can hardly believe Playground Games included this feature. Nerdist social media manager Lee Travis asks:

Who really asked for a landlord eviction simulator in Fable?

Larian creative content manager Ben Maltz-Jones added:

In Fable, you can become one of the most evil beings imaginable, hated by all – a landlord.

We've all slain mythical beasts, wielded magic, and saved the world a thousand times. But few have had the chance to become a landlord with the power to raise rent at a whim and make people homeless. Sure, city-builders and some management games come close, but not in the way Fable does.

The enthusiasm around renting and property ownership vividly demonstrates just how painful this topic is for many modern gamers.
