Co-op roguelite Netherwyn pits players against the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse

Indie studio Pyro Games is developing Netherwyn – a co-op roguelite action RPG featuring permadeath and procedurally generated levels, scheduled for release in Q1 2026. The game sends squads of up to four players into cursed plague-stricken lands populated by relentless enemy hordes. The first release centers on Pestilence – one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Netherwyn is built around a system of unique heroes, each defined by combining two masteries – Warrior, Holy, Assassin, Hunter, or Elemental. For example, the Templar blends the resilience of the Warrior with the divine powers of the Holy mastery, creating a hybrid class with a unique playstyle. The developers recently showcased the Templar in action with focus on defense, control, and sustainability. Also shown was the Shaman, currently in development.

Each run generates new levels from modular chambers with randomized enemies, events, and environmental hazards. As players progress, levels grow longer, enemies stronger, and stakes higher.

Permadeath ends the run when a hero falls, but meta-progression allows strengthening the character roster between attempts. Heroes can be switched at the Inn, where players also manage gear, skills, and upgrades.

Enemies range from swarming Ratkins to Plague Demons and zealous Cultists. Elite enemies introduce unpredictable combat mechanics, while multi-phase bosses test skill, teamwork, and adaptability. The developers note that the game "does not let you breathe," hinting at high tempo and constant pressure.

Netherwyn was built from the ground up for co-op – players coordinate strategies against hordes, combine hero abilities to overcome bosses, and experience greater depth with each run.

Netherwyn is available to add to your Steam wishlist. Release is scheduled for Q1 2026, after which the developers plan to expand content with additional Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
