Magic: The Gathering fan recreates Lorwyn in Skyrim ahead of new set release
The release of the new Magic: The Gathering set Lorwyn Eclipsed is just weeks away. Lorwyn first appeared in the two-set block of the same name in 2007, followed by the connected Shadowmoor block in 2008. The aesthetic proved so popular over the years that Wizards of the Coast decided to return to Lorwyn in 2026.
If waiting two weeks to visit the fantastical woodland plane feels too long, modder Anopelao96 offers an alternative. The creator is recreating Lorwyn in Bethesda's RPG piece by piece. Anopelao has released six different mods based on the Magic: The Gathering setting so far.
The first mod is called Forests of Lorwyn: High Fantasy Tree Overhaul. As the name suggests, the mod changes textures in non-snowy parts of Skyrim to resemble the lands from the original Lorwyn block. This means twisted, gnarled trees and fae aesthetics throughout the game's forests.
According to the modder, Falkreath and the Rift are based on Lorwyn forests, Morthal on Lorwyn bogs, and Skyrim's various tundra regions on Lorwyn plains.
Some Lorwyn creatures have been adapted as well, such as flamekin elementals. These elementals are placed near the Forsaken and in three original villages scattered across Skyrim.
Anopelao added rather sinister-looking kithkin and positioned them in aesthetically appropriate locations, including three custom villages.
In the mod for merrows, the modder included a unique spawn of Sygg – a legendary creature introduced in Shadowmoor. Regular versions of these creatures are placed near Skyrim's bodies of water.
The mod for Lorwyn changelings looks particularly eerie. These are blue-skinned creatures that disguise themselves as other beings in the game. The modder hopes that he and others will continue adapting Lorwyn to eventually create something resembling a full overhaul mod.
