"The Odyssey" brought Christopher Nolan into the top-3 highest-grossing directors of all time

The film "The Odyssey" has already pulled in more than $1 billion worldwide, rewriting Christopher Nolan career stats in the process. Combined earnings across all his films now sit close to $7 billion, up from $6.046 billion back in early July 2026.

That jump pushed the director from seventh place straight to third.

Along the way, he passed several big names: David Yates with the Harry Potter series, Michael Bay with the Transformers franchise, Peter Jackson with the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, and brothers Anthony and Joe Russo, who directed key Marvel movies.

Only two names remain ahead of him now – Steven Spielberg and James Cameron. The gap between Nolan and this pair is so large that even the box office run of "The Odyssey" is unlikely to let him challenge for the top spots anytime soon.
