New Warhammer 40K trailer brings Commissar Yarrick back to Armageddon with a fresh model

Games Workshop has dropped a new cinematic trailer set on the world of Armageddon from the Warhammer 40,000 universe, and alongside it revealed an updated model for the legendary Commissar Sebastian Yarrick. It's grim even by grimdark standards – but the big question it leaves hanging is: what exactly is Games Workshop announcing?

The trailer plunges viewers into the trenches of a ravaged Armageddon – an Imperial Hiveworld and industrial powerhouse that has been the stage for multiple catastrophic wars. The first was against the forces of Chaos, while the second and third Wars for Armageddon brought Ork invasions on an apocalyptic scale. The planet is now a blasted wasteland, and the trailer makes sure you feel every bit of that misery.

Things open with a governor begging his men to flee and save themselves – and that's precisely when a familiar face shows up. Commissar Yarrick, known as the Hero of Hades, relieves the panicking officer of command and takes charge, ordering his soldiers to hold the line. The trailer closes with a proper look at his new model in full detail.

Yarrick has been part of the 40K universe since the '90s and remains one of its most iconic figures. A renowned tactician and Ork expert, he was already well past his prime when the Second War for Armageddon broke out – and still managed to turn near-certain defeat into victory through brilliant strategy and a flat refusal to die.

He lost an arm in the process and replaced it with an Ork's bionic Klaw, since making it his personal mission to kill Ork Warlord Ghazghkull Thraka. This is his fourth model to date – it echoes the spirit of the 2000s version but with noticeably sharper detail and better proportions.

What the trailer is actually teasing, though, remains unclear. Rumors have been circulating for weeks that the next edition of Warhammer 40,000 will center on Orks versus Space Marines – and a cinematic trailer would fit that pattern perfectly, since that's exactly how Games Workshop has announced previous editions of both Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar. But there isn't a single Space Marine in the footage, which makes a new edition starter box seem unlikely – it's hard to imagine one without the Emperor's Angels.

A fourth campaign book to close out the current edition is another possibility, but there are no recognizable new units in the trailer that would typically accompany such a release. New Ork models appearing in both a campaign book and a new edition starter box at the same time would also feel redundant.

The most plausible theory at this point: Games Workshop might be planning a separate lore or campaign book alongside the new edition launch, covering the broader war on Armageddon – which is exactly where Yarrick fits in, since he's hard to picture in a starter set. The new edition box itself would likely focus on a specific front of that war, with Space Marines arriving just in time to push back the Ork tide.

All should become clear by the end of the month – Games Workshop has a livestream of reveals scheduled at AdeptiCon 2026.
