KPop Demon Hunters wins both of its Oscar nominations
"KPop Demon Hunters" was nominated for two awards at the 98th Academy Awards – and managed to take home both. The Netflix film won Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for "Golden".
The song was performed live at the ceremony by Ejae, Rae Ami, and Audrey Nuna. Accepting the Best Original Song award alongside her co-songwriters, Ejae told the crowd through tears that the song and the award are about "resilience".
Across the entire awards season, the film has received 190 nominations and won an impressive 132. Still to come are the iHeart Radio Music Awards and the Music Awards Japan.
Directed and written by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, the film follows a K-Pop girl group called Huntr/x, who protect the world from demonic entities using the power of their voices. Their main enemies are the Saja boys – a rival boy band whose members are secretly demons. The cast includes Arden Cho and Ejae as the speaking and singing voice of Rumi, May Hong and Nuna as the speaking and singing voice of Mira, and Ji-young Yoo and Ami as the speaking and singing voice of Zoey.
"KPop Demon Hunters" currently holds the record for Netflix's most-watched original movie ever, closing in on 600 million views as of March 2026 – and still climbing.
A sequel has already been ordered and will likely hit theaters first, though it probably won't arrive until 2029.
