A Resident Evil Requiem player scared himself with his own reflection thanks to ray tracing

Ray tracing in Resident Evil Requiem is realistic enough to scare you just as much as any zombie. A Thai gamer found this out firsthand, and the clip of his reaction went viral on Twitter, racking up over a million views.

Popular Thai streamer HEARTROCKER, who has nearly 10 million YouTube subscribers, was playing through one of the game's levels with maxed-out graphics settings, ray tracing included – which means realistic reflections on every surface.

At some point he spotted a hole in the wall and stared at it for a while, bracing for something to jump out. Then he spun around – and came face to face with Grace's reflection in the glass. The scare was so genuine that he immediately blurted out what's now become a meme: "Fucking ray tracing!"

The clip resonated instantly. Turns out, plenty of people have been in the same situation. Some just flinched. Others actually managed to fire off a couple of shots.

The humor here is pretty universal – almost everyone has spooked themselves with their own reflection or shadow at some point, stumbling out of bed in the middle of the night.

As for the hole in the wall, it appears to be purely decorative. But if you know what it's actually for, drop a comment.
